US To Impose UN Sanctions 'Snap Back' On Iran: Donald Trump

Donald Trump directed Mike Pompeo to activate a mechanism geared toward reimposing UN sanctions on Iran

Washington:

President Donald Trump introduced Wednesday that he had approved Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to activate a controversial mechanism geared toward reimposing UN sanctions on Iran.

The transfer escalates a diplomatic spat with European allies on the United Nations Safety Council that may have enormous repercussions for the Iran nuclear deal.

“Right now I am directing the secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, to inform the UN Safety Council that the US intends to revive just about all the beforehand suspended United Nations sanctions on Iran,” Trump advised reporters.
