Washington DC:

In one of many strongest assaults by the US on Beijing’s unlawful territorial claims within the strategic waters of South China Sea, State Secretary Mike Pompeo on Saturday confused that Washington’s coverage within the area is crystal clear and stated that the disputed territory within the South China Sea (SCS) is “not China’s maritime empire”.

“The USA’ coverage is crystal clear: The South China Sea isn’t China’s maritime empire. If Beijing violates worldwide legislation and free nations do nothing, historical past exhibits the Chinese language Communist Social gathering (CCP) will merely take extra territory. China Sea disputes should be resolved by worldwide legislation,” Mr Pompeo stated in a tweet.

The South China Sea is grouped into three archipelagos. China claims nearly the complete South China Sea as its sovereign territory and it has aggressively asserted its stake in recent times.

This comes weeks after the US formally dismissed China’s claims to offshore assets throughout many of the South China Sea and termed Beijing’s marketing campaign of bullying to regulate them as “utterly illegal.”

Earlier on July 13, Mr Pompeo had issued a press release on the US place on maritime claims within the South China Sea, saying that the Chinese language authorities has no authorized grounds to unilaterally impose its will on the area.

Washington introduced that it’s aligning the US place on the Chinese language authorities’s claims within the South China Sea with the 2016 Arbitral Tribunal’s choice.

The Trump administration has hardened its stance in direction of Beijing, particularly as relations between the 2 world superpowers proceed to deteriorate in wake of coronavirus pandemic in addition to coercive behaviour with its neighbours, together with India.
