Authorities proposes necessary airbag for entrance passenger on all automobiles

MUMBAI: The Ministry of Street Transport and Highways has proposed necessary implementation of airbags for the co-driver, or entrance passenger, on all automobiles along with steering-mounted driver airbags.

For current fashions, the entrance passenger airbag shall be necessary from 1 April 2021 whereas for brand new fashions it is going to be necessary from 1 June 2021, in keeping with a notification dated 28 December.

The ministry modified the usual necessities relevant to M1 class of automobiles to incorporate passenger airbags as an ordinary fitment. M1 class means a motorcar used for the carriage of passengers, comprising no more than eight seats along with the driving force’s seat.

Airbag for the driving force’s aspect is necessary in all automobiles since July 1, 2019.
