Arrested for Assault on Retired Navy Officer in Mumbai, 6 Suspected Shiv Sena Employees Get Bail

Day after a retired Navy officer was assaulted in Mumbai for forwarding a cartoon of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on social media, six suspected Shiv Sena employees arrested within the case have been granted bail on Saturday. The discharge evoked allegations of political stress on the police.

Questioning the choice to grant bail, BJP chief and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis stated, “It is very improper and a type of ‘state-sponsored terror’ state of affairs. In the meantime, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated he spoke to the Navy veteran and wished him a speedy restoration. “I spoke to retired naval officer Madan Sharma, who was attacked by hooligans in Mumbai, and enquired about his well being. Such assaults on ex-servicemen are fully unacceptable and deplorable. I want Madan ji a speedy restoration,” ANI quoted him as saying.

The six individuals have been arrested after native BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar posted a video of the Friday’s assault on the retired officer, Madan Sharma (62), on Twitter. A criticism was filed in opposition to Sena employees at Kandivali police station. Chief of opposition within the state Legislative council Pravin Darekar, Bhatkhalkar and the sufferer’s family members staged an agitation exterior the ACP’s workplace in Kandivali.

They demanded that the accused be booked below sections 326 (inflicting grievous damage by harmful weapons and means), and 452 and 450 (house-trespassing) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), that are non-bailable. Nangre Patil, who visited the location of the protest,instructed the protesters the accused have been booked below part 325of the IPC for inflicting grievous damage and rioting sections,which was a bailable offence.

“Six individuals arrested yesterday below part 325 of the IPC. They have been granted bail in view of the COVID-19 state of affairs. There is no such thing as a political stress. I do not suppose part 326 might be invoked since that quantities to the usage of sharp weapons.
